Welcome to South Yarra Catholic Parish, a community of ordinary people from very diverse cultural and national backgrounds, doing their best to create a parish community that reaches out with Good News to our society and hoping to make all feel welcomed and valued.
Our two churches, St. Joseph’s and St. Thomas Aquinas, and our other parish buildings, stand on land that was once part of the very large region occupied for thousands of years by the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
In the years after the establishment of our parish in 1887, many waves of new migrants settled in South Yarra and made our churches their spiritual home.
Since 1976, members of the Augustinian Order have served in our parish, living the Gospel with inspiration from the spiritual tradition of St. Augustine, and working to create a parish community that especially serves Christ in his needy sisters and brothers, “One in mind and heart on the way to God”.
